"We All Bleed the Same Colour"

I have a dream that one day little black boys and girls will be holding hands with little white boys and girls. - Martin Luther King Jr.

Racism has to be one of the most disturbing topics to cover. As a black female in such an unforgiving world, it unnerves me to no end to know that such a hatred can arise because of the colour of your skin. Racism originated from the years of slavery, it was the way that the whites retained the psychological chains on the black community - which still remain until this day. "Racism is more than what is in the heart of an individual person at the moment of a particular act. Racism is the cumulative history of all those thoughts and acts. They add up to a pattern in which people of color are routinely and systematically treated differently than white people," expressed an article from TIME.

Hating people because of their color is wrong. And it doesn't matter which color does the hating. It's just plain wrong. - Muhammad Ali

People tend to believe that racism can only be towards black people, but what they fail to realize is that racism can come from any race towards any race. There is no default race to which racism is directed. "Racism, evidently, is not as black-and-white an issue as some believe it to be. It is complicated and confusing," stated The Economic Times. Whenever the term racism is brought up, the automatic thought is of a black and white person, but in fact racism spreads much further that just two races.

Racism is an infection to society, it plagues our lives and is something we cannot escape. Even though it may not always be direct, or blatantly obvious, it can be rather subtle and almost unnoticeable. In our world racism should be nonexistent, no one should be discriminated against based on their skin colour, or their race.

Our true nationality is mankind. - H.G. Wells
